Packaging Advisor
The carton is part of the rate and part of whether the goods survive the sort. Enter the packed size and weight, not the product size alone. The advisor names a class of packaging. It does not replace a packing test for fragile goods.
How to measure
Measure the finished carton, including bulge. Length is the longest side. Girth is length plus twice the width plus twice the height. Parcel has a maximum length and a maximum length-plus-girth. Over those limits, use LTL or truckload. Liquids need inner closure and absorbent material; an envelope is the wrong answer even if the numbers fit.
Cushioning should keep the product from touching the outer wall. Heavy items need double-wall board. Mixed SKUs in one carton should not be able to crush each other. A weak carton that bursts in the hub is an insufficient-packing defense on a damage claim.
Dimensional weight
Billable weight is the greater of scale weight and dimensional weight. A large light box can cost more than a small dense one. If the advisor says “corrugated carton,” still choose the smallest box that allows cushioning. Then get a rate on Get Rates and Transit Times with those dimensions.
