Clearance Filed Against the Shipment You Already Booked
Customs brokerage prepares and files the entry for goods moving on a Vandelta international parcel or freight shipment. The broker uses the commercial invoice, packing list, and transportation documents you provide at booking. Duties and taxes are estimated where the destination publishes them, then accounted for per the terms on the shipment.
Clearance is not instant. Holds for exam, missing documents, or restricted commodities show in tracking. The freight or parcel does not move to final delivery until the entry is accepted or you instruct a change.
Brokerage is not legal advice and is not a substitute for Trade Compliance on classification. If HS codes or licenses are wrong, the entry is delayed or refused. Classify first, then file.

How Brokerage Is Applied to a Shipment

Complete shipment documents
Invoice, value, country of origin, and commodity description must match what is in the carton or on the pallet.

Assign brokerage on the account
Sales or your contract names Vandelta as broker, or names a third party. The ISF or entry cannot file without that assignment.

Track clearance through delivery
Holds and release post on the same tracking number as the physical move. Respond to document requests the same day when possible.
When Customs Brokerage Is Required
Use brokerage when
- Goods (not documents-only) enter or leave a country on a Vandelta shipment.
- You want entry filed against the same tracking or PRO number.
- Duties should be estimated before the cargo arrives.
Use another service when
- You only need HS codes and restricted-party checks — use Trade Compliance.
- The shipment never crosses a border — book domestic parcel or freight.
- You already have a broker of record and only need the move — say so at booking.
Documents, Value, and Importer of Record
Entries fail when value, origin, or importer details are missing. Provide them before the goods reach the border.
- Importer of record
- A legal entity and, where required, a bond. Vandelta cannot invent an importer on the entry.
- Invoice
- Seller, buyer, quantity, unit value, currency, and country of origin. “Samples” with no value are often rejected.
- Classification
- HS or HTS code from Trade Compliance or your own classifier. The broker files the code you supply unless contracted to classify.
- Licenses
- Dual-use, food, and medical goods may need permits before departure. Those are not created at the dock.
