Declared-Value Coverage for Shipments
Declared-value coverage selected at booking so a lost or damaged parcel or freight shipment can be claimed up to the amount you declare.
Coverage Amount You Set When You Book
Declared-value coverage is purchased on the shipment, not as a stand-alone policy website. You enter the value of the goods at rating. The charge appears on the same invoice as the move. If the shipment is lost or damaged in Vandelta care, a claim can be filed up to that declared amount, subject to the terms on the bill or label.
Standard liability without a declared value is limited. High-value electronics, tooling, and samples should be declared. Coverage does not pay duties, delay, or market loss. It does not replace packing requirements.
Claims need the tracking or PRO number, photos of damage, and the original invoice. Concealed damage has a reporting window. Temperature claims on cold chain need the exception on the delivery receipt.

How to Add Coverage and File a Claim

Declare value at rating
Enter the selling price or replacement cost. Under-declaring caps the claim at the lower number.

Pack to the service rules
Insufficient packaging can deny a damage claim even when value was declared.

File with documents
Use tracking or PRO, photos, and the commercial invoice. Note damage on the delivery receipt when it is visible.
When to Declare Value
Declare value when
- Replacement cost exceeds the service’s standard liability.
- The goods are new inventory, not documents of no commercial value.
- You can document value with an invoice.
Skip extra coverage when
- You are shipping documents with no commercial value.
- Standard liability already covers the item.
- A separate cargo policy on your books already covers the move — avoid double-buying without checking both wordings.
Limits, Packing, and Claims Windows
Declared value is not unlimited. Prohibited items and poor packing are excluded.
- Maximum
- Shown at booking by service. Amounts above the on-screen cap need a sales contract.
- Packing
- Carton or pallet must meet Vandelta packaging rules for that service. Original retail boxes alone are often not enough.
- Excluded
- Cash, some jewelry, and improperly declared dangerous goods. See the restricted items guide.
- Time to file
- Visible damage: note on delivery. Concealed damage: report within the window printed on your terms.
