One Trailer, One Shipment, Sealed at Origin
Full truckload (FTL) assigns a trailer to a single shipper. Freight is loaded at origin, sealed, and delivered without terminal handling for other customers. Use it when cube or weight fills the unit, or when the commodity cannot ride with mixed LTL freight.
Quotes specify equipment (dry van, flatbed, or reefer), pickup date, and live-load or drop-trailer. Transit is driving time plus any appointed delivery window. Detention applies if the driver is held past free time at the dock.
FTL is not a parcel service and is not priced by carton. If you have a few pallets, LTL is usually the fit. If the load must stay at a set temperature, specify reefer equipment or book Cold Chain.

The quote is for a specific pickup. Changing the date can change capacity and rate.

Load and seal
Load within free time, record the seal, and keep the bill of lading with the driver.
When Full Truckload Is the Right Service
Book FTL when
- Volume or weight fills a trailer, or you need exclusive use.
- The commodity cannot mix with other shippers’ freight.
- You can load at dock hours on a booked date.
Choose another service when
- You have a few pallets — use LTL Freight.
- Stock must sit in a warehouse first — use Warehousing and Fulfillment.
- The product needs a validated temperature range — use Cold Chain.
Equipment, Free Time, and Seals
Truckload rates assume the equipment and access you declare. Site constraints must be on the order.
- Equipment
- 53-foot dry van is the default. Flatbed and reefer are quoted separately.
- Free time
- Live-load and live-unload have a stated free-time window. Extra time is billed as detention.
- Access
- Driver must be able to reach the dock. Limited-access sites, farm roads, and after-hours must be declared.
- Seal
- Record seal numbers on the bill of lading. Broken seals at delivery must be noted on the receipt.
